PE and Sport Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

Selborne CE Primary School PE Funding Statement

What is the PE and sports premium?

For the financial year 2022 - 2023 we received £7000 for the PE and Sports Premium Grant.

This will focus on maintaining standards of inter-school competition and raising physical activity on a weekly basis through outdoor learning, enhancing the curriculum by increasing the time children spend being physically active in their learning rather than sat in classrooms.

Below is a joint statement from the Department for Education and the Department for Culture, Media & Sport about the PE and sports premium:

“We are spending over £450 million on improving physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools over the 3 academic years 2013 to 2014, 2014 to 2015 and 2015 to 2016. We will allocate this extra funding directly to primary headteachers.”

“Schools can choose how they use the funding, for example to:

•hire specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work with primary teachers during PE lessons

•support and involve the least active children by running after-school sports clubs and holiday clubs, e.g. the Change4Life clubs

•provide resources and training courses in PE and sport for teachers

•run sport competitions or increase pupils’ participation in the School Games

•run sports activities with other schools"

Impact

Children have access to before and after school provision which includes a range sports like Yoga, Karate, Multi-sports and more . Over the past 3 years, they have the opportunity to attend: Cross Country races; Hockey; Orienteering; Table Tennis; Basketball; Dodgeball; Badminton; Athletics; Girls Football; Boys Football; Netball; and Tri-Golf. These are open to all children in the age group for which planned and there is no selection other than for the final team event, there is a good take up in these events. Many more events are planned for the coming academic year.

We will take part in the Alton Area Primary Swimming Gala - children are very keen to take part in this and it is always oversubscribed.

Sporting activity has a high profile in the school and the children are very keen to participate. Many of our children are achieving well in the cluster competitions both on a personal basis but also as teams across the age ranges.

Key Indicators for our planned spending

Key indicator 1:
The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that primary school children undertake at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day in school.

Key indicator 2: The profile of PESSPA (Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity) being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.

Key indicator 3: Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.

Key indicator 4: Increased participation in competitive sport.

Closing statement

The PE provision will be constantly under review to make sure it is put to best use over the next few years.

We are also looking at funding some staff training and develop to increase the use of our outside area over the coming months so that children are able to be active across the curriculum.
